Here's another tip that I have added to my novel.

Starting about the 25% mark, the main character of the novel you're working on needs to be in a reaction mindset. At least that is how my novel has gone. The MC was scrambling to understand the obstacles thrown his/her way by the antagonist.

If you are writing a book, Act 2 needs to have realistic obstacles that are encountered. I say realistic because the reader will be ejected from the story should an event(s) feel forced or unnatural. I had to stop my novel several times because my mind wouldn't come up with believable events.

Toward the beginning of Act 2 and within the afore mentioned obstacles, a complication needs to arise. At the 37%-50% mark in your book, the protagonist's realization needs to grow and his/her reactions need to become more informed.
