I finished reading "The Striker" by Clive Cussler and Justin Scott today. I have to say that I did not care for this novel. I found myself skimming whole pages sometimes a whole chapter because the story drug on. What irritated me was the overuse of adverbs. I counted, in one sentence at the beginning of this book, four words ending in "ly." It felt to me like the author needed to meet a certain word count so adverbs were added and fillers were added to the story. If you were to take out all the fillers that did nothing to add to the story and the adverbs this novel could have been about 100 pages less.

The plot itself sounded very promising and I was able to follow the story up to the 70% mark on my Kindle. At that point the story started unraveling and became disjointed. I did keep reading but I scanned quite a bit of the final 30% because the scenes were jumping around too much and I could not keep track of what all the characters were doing.

I will say that the main characters were fleshed out well and I understood each of their motivations. Without giving any spoilers, I did find myself in a bit of an emotional turmoil toward the end of the book.

I wanted to like this novel but alas it was a disappointment. The main plot has been done before and the inciting incident hacked my gizzard

I will say first, this book seemed to be written at a middle school reading level and was riddled with cliches.
