The book starts with the MC fresh out of law school. His plans for the future were derailed as he was forced to leave his friends and work for a large firm in the big city. The story informs of the hardships he had to deal with to include the possibility of being disbarred. The book shows what kind of understanding the mc's friends had regarding his uncharacteristic decision to work in an area he openly despised.

Unable to improve his situation, he was forced to spy on his new employer. The mc didn't have a moment's rest, besides spying on the company, he was being spied on also to ensure he performed certain tasks.

There was enough background on the characters so that I wanted to continue reading. The background wasn't an info dump, rather it was broken into smaller segments as the story unfolded.

There were twists throughout the story which kept me engaged. If you like legal thrillers then I recommend reading this novel.

I wanted to like this novel but alas it was a disappointment. The main plot has been done before and the inciting incident hacked my gizzard

"The Pawn" by Steven James

I will say first, this book seemed to be written at a middle school reading level and was riddled with cliches.
