Read-- Learn through osmosis from the experts

Unfortunately I do not have access to an expert in writing so I took a deep dive into the world of the internet and got any questions I may have had from there. I still go to the internet for questions that I may have on a scene for the novel I am currently working on.

Read everything--From billboards to business cards, clever words are everywhere

I am still working on this particular item myself since my ability to go outside and do constructive things in person is limited to what my body will do and how it decides to perform on a given day.

Read everything else-- From recipes to receipts, weird words are everywhere

I must admit to those of you who decide to read what I write but I am guilty of falling by the wayside in this regard. I admit that I do not read my receipts. Other than look at my totals and what I have to pay, they go in the trash

Pick mentors-- Pick a few authors you like and read everything they write

When I was in school? I read a lot of westerns and as I grew into my career, my reading turned to technical manuals. Now I have been searching different authors in an effort to find someone that I enjoy reading enough to consider them a mentor. I am still looking though.

Read reviews-- See what others say about authors you read

This I do on a regular basis. Many of the reviews I read however, are from Independent publishers or authors publishing their own books. I'm getting gist of what people look for and expect when they read a novel.
