Let people know you're writing a novel

I struggled with this one for a while. In my life, it was common knowledge that authors can't make money. Authors can't pay rent. I realized that thinking was holding me back so I ignored what I'd been told throughout my life and plunged into the world of wordsmithing.

I am now informing people that I am an author working on my first novel. This has forced me to make progress on my novel because the people I told of my intent, would enquiry of the progress of my novel. These enqiries held me accountable to the novel.

At first I would tell people I was on the early chapters but now I'm more than 1/2 way and I was proud when I announced that I was on chapter twenty-eight.
