Flaws abound

I had a bit of excitement yesterday. I couldn't sign in to update my blog and was thinking I may have to leave you without a goodbye. After that thought crossed my mind however, I was able to sign in. So, with that problem rectified, this is the update at the first of the month.
It was brought to my remembrance that my story had serious contradictory flaws, so I started rereading from chapter one. Sure enough, my mind was correct. I got to chapter three and determined my novel needs a lot of fixing. It was late autumn in chapter one and early spring in chapter fourteen with a matter of days lapsing. I'm going to read the remaining fourteen chapters to ensure all the flaws are remedied.
I also realized that the beginning of the plot wasn't making sense and as many writers will attest the beginning is the foundation for any story. Just like the foundation of a house needs to be solid, the story needs to have a firm foundation that must not have deviation.
So, I have been fixing my foundation. I've heard some writers say to keep writing the novel. The problem with that is if the foundation is sloppy then the whole book might need to be rewritten and one of my peeves is to do multiple work if it can be avoided. With my disease, multiple workloads could mean as much as a lost year in writing my novel.
Even though this will be my first novel, I want it to be the best I can make it. Through writing this novel, I have learned much. One such provision I'm contemplating on employing for my next novel is the use of an outline. I hear some authors use them and some don't. I haven't used an outline on this novel and I'm finding myself fixing it and I'm not half done.
