After doing physical therapy at the gym, I went uptown to get something to eat which took longer than normal. The store that I frequent was stripping their parking lot and laying fresh asphalt. I had problems finding a spot to park my van that would allow the ramp to fold down on the passenger side without hitting another vehicle.
That is where some problems began for me because the ramp dropped down onto a grassy area. Upon extricating myself from the van, I pushed the button to fold the ramp back into the van but the door did not pull shut like it was supposed to. Maneuvering the wheelchair closer to the van, I pushed the button to close the door while using my hand to assist it as the motor pulled the door shut. Now I had a new problem, since I had to get closer to the van, one of the drive wheels of my wheelchair dropped into a divot in the grass and was spinning. I was stuck, outside, in 88 degree weather and it was getting hotter. Due to my disability, I knew I had to get unstuck fast or somebody would need to call an ambulance for me. After working with the controller, I was able to get my wheelchair unstuck and avert disaster.
After acquiring the much-anticipated meal, I began the dreaded act of lowering the ramp and taking the risk that my wheelchair would get stuck again. There were no issues with the wheelchair and the uneven terrain the ramp had lowered onto. Once inside, I was able to maneuver myself from my wheelchair, into the driver's seat, activate the ramp to fold it up, close the door and get back to the apartment so I could eat the meal that had taken much more time and energy than anticipated.
This post is 356 words but my mind was thinking, debating throughout the day. It contemplated various scenarios in an effort to find a believable sequence of events for my novel. So, I feel like much was accomplished.
